Join Us at Yale’s Big Ag & Antitrust Conference
January 16 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm EST
Family Farm Action Alliance’s Emily Miller has been invited to present a new paper, written in collaboration with Dr. Mary Hendrickson and Dr. Philip Howard, at Yale’s upcoming virtual conference, “Big Ag & Antitrust: Competition Policy for a Sustainable and Humane Food System.” The conference will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 and is free and open to the public.
From academics, enforcers, policymakers, practitioners, journalists, and beyond, this virtual conference is a place to convene and share ideas for how to collaboratively address concentration in agriculture.
Our new paper argues that the root of the vulnerability we see in today’s concentrated agrifood supply chain is unequal power relationships between people, communities, and the environment. We examine the “modes of power” in these relationships to expose the nature of power accumulation by corporate actors and unique points of intervention for agrifood system reform.
The aim of this conference is to explore the role of antitrust and competition policy in creating America’s food system and its potential for improving it; with the hope that the papers presented here will help spark future research, heightened enforcement attention, and new ideas for policy reforms toward achieving more competitive, sustainable, and humane agriculture markets.
